Monday, March 21st, 2011Thanksgiving Safety Tips!
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010Thanksgiving brings health hazards to dogs and other pets as well as humans. Don’t give turkey bones to pets. Turkey bones and other bird bones are hollow, which makes them likely to splinter. This can cause tears in an animal’s esophagus, stomach or intestines.
Fatty holiday foods, like turkey skin and gravy, can contribute to Pancreatitis. More pets are brought to vets for Pancreatitis after their families have had a party or holiday dinner.
Be careful about leaving chocolate candies out (or kids dropping candy on the floor). Chocolate can cause illness and death in dogs. In addition, dogs shouldn’t be fed grapes, raisins, onions, alcohol or anything with caffeine. It’s also important to keep the string used to tie the turkey and other food wrappings out of reach of pets.
Dogs tend to be excited when there are lots of people in the house. When they are excited, they often eat too quickly, and this can lead to bloating, a very dangerous condition. Feed your dog before the guests arrive and don’t let them be too active before or after eating. (Easier said than done, right?)

Heat Index is Sky High !
Saturday, August 14th, 2010Hey dog friends…..just heard the weather gurus predict our hottest days coming soon. At Hip Hounds we always make sure your pups have plenty of access all day to fresh water AND we are staying inside in the shade with fans and AC.
We are taking extra special precautions with our little pug friends to make sure they aren’t spending too much time outside in this heat and humidity and urge you to do the same for all dogs! It really is beastly out there.

Summer Time!
Thursday, July 8th, 2010I know it seems more like spring right now with all of the rain but we are in the middle of summer right now! We had a great Fourth of July here at Hip Hounds this year. We had a little 80′s music party with the dogs so they did not even hear one firework! I wanted to post a little summer reminder on safety concerns for you and your dogs this summer. Check out this link at the HSUS website!
Holidays are coming!
Thursday, October 15th, 2009Hello everyone! It is mid October and people are starting to plan for the upcoming holidays already. We do have plenty of space available for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We do require a 100 dollar deposit per dog if your dog(s) is going to stay over these days. Give us a call if you have any questions regarding holiday boarding.
Free bath Monday went very well this week. We bathed over 24 dogs that day. It was kind of crazy but it was fun for everyone, even some of the dogs enjoyed themselves. We look forward to another busy bath day in two weeks on the 26th!
Woof!
Foster Update
Friday, October 2nd, 2009Hello! I hope everyone is having a good week. A lot of people are going to ACL and are leaving their furry kids with us! It will be one big dog party here!
Some of you may remember that back in August I posted about some foster and rescue dogs that we had available for adoption. Well I wanted to let you all know that Princess, the small border collie mix from Town Lake Animal Center has found a permanent home! She went home with one of our clients, Guiness! So Guiness and her new sister, now named Zoe Samantha, are enjoying getting to know each other. Their dad says they are getting along well and that Zoe is becoming more confident every day. She even went to a dinner party with him! What a lucky dog!
